Add value and improve the curb appeal of your home
Pattern imprinted concrete (PIC) is a decorative technique where freshly poured concrete is textured and coloured to mimic materials like stone, brick, slate, or cobbles.
Pattern Imprinted Concrete
The main maintenance consideration is periodic resealing to keep the surface protected and looking fresh. When installed correctly, pattern imprinted concrete combines impressive visual appeal with durability, low upkeep and long-term value.
Commonly selected for its clean finish, seamless appearance and the ability to replicate more expensive paving styles, PIC is ideal for homeowners looking for a driveway that performs well and makes a strong first impression.
The Process
Here’s how the comprehensive process from Wight Premium Driveways works from start to finish.
Surface Preparation
The ground is excavated to the required depth (typically 100–150mm for driveways) and a sub-base of compacted hardcore is laid. Formwork is set up around the edges to define the shape and contain the pour.
Pouring the Concrete
A structural concrete mix is poured and screeded level. A plasticiser is often added to improve workability. The slab needs to be level and consistent in thickness to ensure even curing and avoid cracking.
Applying the Base Colour
A dry powder or liquid colour hardener is broadcast across the surface and worked in with a float. This becomes the main body colour of the finished driveway.
Applying the Release Agent
A second colour is dusted or sprayed over the top. It prevents the stamps from sticking and settles into the recesses of the pattern to create a natural two-tone effect.
Stamping / Imprinting
Large rubber or polyurethane stamp mats are pressed firmly into the surface while the concrete remains workable, carrying the relief of the chosen pattern.
Curing and Sealing
The concrete is left to cure and once fully cured the surface is sealed with a polyurethane or acrylic sealer to lock in colour and protect against oil, frost, fuel and UV fading.
